May 10th, 2014
Estrella Warbirds Museum and the Woodland Auto DIsplay in Paso Robles will be hosting their 6th annual Warbirds Wings & Wheels Car Show. Over 250 classic cars, hot rods, motorcycles, race cars and boats will be on display along with all the military vehicles and planes and the auto display.
One of the greatest names in racing history, Bobby Unser is coming to Paso Robles on May 10th, to participate in the car show. Bobby worked his way up the ranks the hard way, plenty of dirt tracks and a lead foot on the gas pedal! Thirteen times he was the fastest up Pikes Peak, 4 times he was the International Race of Champions winner (IROC), 49 times he held the pole position in Indy race cars and three times he took home the trophy as the Indy 500 race winner. Bobby will be on hand to meet and greet the participants and spectators and to sign autographs.
Not only will Bobby be coming but we've also secured the option to bring out the very car he raced to win the 1981 Indy 500! The 1981 Penske PC9B Norton Sprint Indy Car will be on display in the Woodland Auto Display Building during the event.
It's Not Just a Car Show
Firestone Walker Brewing Company will be on hand pouring some of their award winning beers along with several food vendors, craft vendors and historical displays. Music will provided all day by classic rock band Triple Threat.
Your Chance to Fly in a Warbird! Ever had a ride in a vintage warbird on your bucket list. Well, here is your chance for a ride in a T34 trainer for $300 or if you need at least 1,400 hp breath taking, hearth throbbing moments to get your giddup along, you can fly in a T28 trainer for $650. A portion of each plane ride is tax deductible as a donation to the museum. Don't miss out on your chance to go for a ride in a fully restored piece of American history.
The North County Cloud Clippers are dedicated to the building and flying of radio controlled model aircraft. They will be doing flying exhibitions at 11 AM and 1 PM. They will have a display of their airplanes for all to observe up close and personal.

On a sad note, long time Estrella Warbirds Museum member and supporter, Tom Gaebele, passed away on May 6th. A memorial (with BBQ lunch) has been planned by his family at Thomson Hall, Saturday, March 6th, 1:00 p.m. Members and friends are invited to attend and share memories. Please RSVP Tom's brother at [email protected] so they can get a headcount for the catered BBQ luncheon. Any questions call Betty at 805 466-1212. Tom had long been active in the museum and when we started the Warbirds Wings and Wheels events, he was one of the first to sign up for each of the past 5 years. He (and his enthusiastically restored Cadillac's) will be missed.
