May 10th, 2014

Estrella Warbirds Museum and the Woodland Auto DIsplay in Paso Robles will be hosting their 6th annual Warbirds Wings & Wheels Car Show. Over 250 classic cars, hot rods, motorcycles, race cars and boats will be on display along with all the military vehicles and planes and the auto display.

One of the greatest names in racing history, Bobby Unser is coming to Paso Robles on May 10th, to participate in the car show. Bobby worked his way up the ranks the hard way, plenty of dirt tracks and a lead foot on the gas pedal! Thirteen times he was the fastest up Pikes Peak, 4 times he was the International Race of Champions winner (IROC), 49 times he held the pole position in Indy race cars and three times he took home the trophy as the Indy 500 race winner. Bobby will be on hand to meet and greet the participants and spectators and to sign autographs.

Not only will Bobby be coming but we've also secured the option to bring out the very car he raced to win the 1981 Indy 500! The 1981 Penske PC9B Norton Sprint Indy Car will be on display in the Woodland Auto Display Building during the event.
It's Not Just a Car Show

Firestone Walker Brewing Company will be on hand pouring some of their award winning beers along with several food vendors, craft vendors and historical displays.   Music will provided all day by classic rock band Triple Threat.

Your Chance to Fly in a Warbird! Ever had a ride in a vintage warbird on your bucket list.   Well, here is your chance for a ride in a T34 trainer for $300 or if you need at least 1,400 hp breath taking, hearth throbbing moments to get your giddup along, you can fly in a T28 trainer for $650.  A portion of each plane ride is tax deductible as a donation to the museum.  Don't miss out on your chance to go for a ride in a fully restored piece of American history.

The North County Cloud Clippers are dedicated to the building and flying of radio controlled model aircraft.  They will be doing flying exhibitions at 11 AM and 1 PM.  They will have a display of their airplanes for all to observe up close and personal.

Estrella Warbirds Museum, Inc.

The Estrella Warbirds Museum houses an extensive collection of WWII, Korean War and Vietnam War planes and a vast array of military memorabilia extending back prior to WWI.  The Woodland Auto Display is fast becoming known as one of the best automotive car collections in California.  Come check out the Sprint cars, Midgets, Indy cars, NASCAR race cars, hot rods, classic cars, motorcycles and antique bicycles.  Be sure to check out all the pictures and posters covering over 10,000 square feet of wall space.

Estrella Warbirds Museum is dedicated to the restoration and preservation of military aircraft, vehicles and the memorabilia of those who used and maintained them. Their approach is not to glorify conflict, but rather to make future generations aware of the fact our way of life does not come without sacrifice. Estrella Warbirds Museum is a non-profit under the provisions of sections 501(c)(3) of the IRS Code, tax ID number is: 77-0324714. All proceeds from the car show go to help preserve, maintain and expand their displays for future generations to enjoy.
On a sad note, long time Estrella Warbirds Museum member and supporter, Tom Gaebele, passed away on May 6th. A memorial (with BBQ lunch) has been planned by his family at Thomson Hall, Saturday, March 6th, 1:00 p.m. Members and friends are invited to attend and share memories.  Please RSVP Tom's brother at larry@gabelecpa.com so they can get a headcount for the catered BBQ luncheon.  Any questions call Betty at 805 466-1212.  Tom had long been active in the museum and when we started the Warbirds Wings and Wheels events, he was one of the first to sign up for each of the past 5 years. He (and his enthusiastically restored Cadillac's) will be missed.

to El Paso de Robles, or "Pass of the Oaks", a community of 30,000 nestled in the coastal mountain range of central California, where the values and riches of the past are interwoven with the future. Located close to mountains, beaches, and deserts, it is home to one of the United States’ greatest wine growing areas and a growing number of hot springs resorts.

The City of Paso Robles has a long history with both wine and healing waters. Situated midway between Los Angeles and San Francisco, it is also a gateway to thriving metropolitan areas north, south and east.

Paso Robles offers all the amenities of family life including attractive and available housing, ample City services, state-of-the-art recreation facilities, easy access retail shopping, excellent public schools, and safe neighborhoods.

The City understands the importance of business and works hard to attract commerce in a diverse array of industries. The local economy is remains healthy with a 2008 gross product of $2,000,000,000. Paso Robles' population growth continues to exceed much of the Central Coast. With just over 11% of San Luis Obispo County's population, the City has 19% of retail sales and 53% of manufacturing jobs. In 2008 alone, Paso Robles accounted for 14% of all the new homes built. Paso Robles has sustained strong, uninterrupted economic growth since 1993. Given Paso Robles’ diversified economy, the national economic recession will be felt in the City, but at a lesser degree than the remainder of the county. The regional economic outlook for San Luis Obispo County can be downloaded here: Paso Robles Economic Forecast

Paso Robles holds the charm of a rural community, but is developing into a center of industry, viticulture, recreation, commerce, and housing. It is truly a place with something for everyone.
